Advanced Automotive Battery Conference Europe, AABC 2012 - Overview

Networking events in the Exhibit Hall drew a large number of industry professionals, creating business opportunities and information exchange outside the conference sessions.Marcus Meiler, from Deutsche ACCUmotive, discussed stringent safety aspects on multiple levels and the use of a high number of tests and quality gates.Yuji Minamibori, Showa Denko, recommended the advantages of aluminum pouch film Pouch.Eckhard Karden, from Ford, explored storage system requirements for next generation microhybrid batteries.Masaaki Hosokawa, GS Yuasa, reviewed lead acid battery performance improvements in Japanese micro-hybrids.Marcus Gilch, Continental, discussed automotive applications for power net stabilization, boost and recuperation.Marc Thele, Audi, presented an evaluation of Li-Ion batteries in 14V architectures.Jeff Kessen, A123, recommended Li-Ion start / stop systems for fuel economy gains to meet increasing stringent regulations.Roland Matthe reviewed Opel’s validation and field experience with the Opel Ampera. Anthony Wong, ATL, explored the trade-offs for mechanical cell designs in performance, reliability and manufacturing.Masato Origuchi of Renault discussed thermal management of the battery pack and the safety of the battery.Arno Perner, BMW, discussed safety-enhancing technology and the validation of battery reliability and safety under ordinary and abusive conditions.  

AAB extends a warm thank you to all AABC Europe 2012 attendees! 575 participants explored advances in battery technology and market development at the 3rd European Advanced Automotive Battery Conference in Mainz, Germany.

The AABC Europe 2012 program reviewed advances in lithium-ion battery materials, safety and reliability enhancement and validation, stationary specialty applications and large EC Capacitor technology and applications.  The symposia also covered market development of EVs and advanced batteries, energy storage for micro-hybrids, advances in battery performances for hybrid and electric vehicles, battery pack applications for automotive applications and computer simulations to aid automotive battery designs. Researchers displayed their latest findings and engaged in lively discussions with attendees during the poster sessions.

Networking events, which included 60 exhibitors, provided a lively environment for business opportunities and discussion outside the conference sessions. The AABC Dinner offered an unforgettable networking venue as many attendees viewed German towns and vineyards as they cruised down the Rhine River on a chartered boat, happy that the afternoon rain showers had passed.
