Bolloré Group, created in 1822, is multi-sector French conglomerate. It operates businesses in transports and logistics, port operation, media and communication, energy storage solutions, plantations and shareholding. In 2012, it made 10.2 billion euros in sales and a net profit of 804 million euros.
Bolloré Group has been the specialist of energy storage for more than 50 years and is continuing investing in this field. From the experience acquired with the production and commercialization of metalized papers and dielectric films for the capacitor industry, Bolloré Group developed two energy components of a new kind dedicated to electro-mobility: the Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP) battery and supercapacitors.
The LMP battery relies on a proprietary technology of which Bolloré Group owns all the patents. Based on extruded films, the LMP battery has an all solid design offering several advantages in terms of performance and safety. The electrolyte is a polymer film and no solvents are used in the battery, rending the possibility of a thermal event or local pollution for less plausible, thus improving the safety for the user.
With the LMP battery developed, Bolloré Group set up a global strategy around electro mobility and energy storage. The first achievement was the creation of the Bluecar, a 100% electric car offering a range of 250 km. With the LMP battery and the Bluecar developed, Bolloré competed for the Autolib’ tender which it won. Bolloré Group then developed an entire charging infrastructure and customer relation system dedicated to electro-mobility and public use: charging polls, renting kiosks, subscription kiosks and the operating system managing the solution.
On the December 5th, 2011, the Autolib’ carsharing service, in Paris and 46 surrounding cities, was commercially launch using the Bluecar and all the solutions developed within Bolloré Group. Since then, more than 80,000 persons have used the service, of which more than 35,000 registered for a one year contract, more than 2,000,000 rentals have been made and 20,000,000 km have been driven in the Île de France region with a Bluecar.
Today, the Autolib’ service is still expending with new cities joining the service in the Île de France region. The carsharing solution developed by Bolloré Group proved its efficiency and its relevance for a year and half and is now adopted by other cities with the deployment of the Bluely service in Lyon and Villeurbanne and Bluecub in Bordeaux.
